Three games in Aberdeen at Northern State University in the Barnett Center, that was the road for the Bulldogs to become the 2019 Boys State B Basketball Tournament Champs. All it would take is three wins.
The state tournament was held March 14-16. Game one pitted the Bulldogs against the Jones County Coyotes, game two was against the Viborg-Hurley Cougars and game three, the championship game, it was De Smet against the Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones.

The De Smet Bulldogs (#5, 23-2) faced off March 16 against the Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones The Cyclones have nine seniors on their team and they’re a team that gave the Bulldogs a loss on Dec. 11, 2018, 67-45 in the Dog Pound.
The Bulldogs and Cyclones game was tied only once and the lead changed only twice. De Smet’s largest lead was by three points in the first period, The Cyclones had their largest lead at the beginning of the third period with 14 points. The Cyclones senior guard Jacob Prouty (#21) had 35 of the 49 points for the game. Prouty ended up outscoring Kalen Garry in the tournament after Garry was the top scorer for the tournament after day two.
In the first period the Cyclones outscored the Bulldogs 17-9. In the second period the score was a little more evenly matched at 10-8 with the Cyclones on top. The half-time score was 27-17, Cyclones. In the third period it was still close, but the edge went to the Cyclones again with 14-12. In the fourth period the Bulldogs finally outscored the Cyclones 8-12, but it was not enough for the win. The Final score was Cyclones 49, Bulldogs 41.
The Bulldogs’ lead scorer was Kalen Garry with 14, followed by Ethan McCune with 12, Rett Osthus had seven and Tory Holland had six.
The De Smet boys had five offensive and 23 defensive rebounds for a total of 28. Garry led rebounds with nine, McCune had seven and Osthus had four.
The Bulldogs were 17 of 49 from the field, four 19 from the three-point line and three of seven for free throws.
They had three steals, three blocks eight turnovers, seven assists and 16 personal fouls.
