Chad Kruse is De Smet’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year. Mayor Gary Wolkow presented him with a plaque at a short ceremony Tuesday morning at Ward’s Store & Bakery.
Kruse is in his fourth three-year term as president of the De Smet Chamber of Commerce. During his tenure he has worked with other volunteers to bring to life many of the celebrations De Smet is know for: Old Settlers Day, the rib fest and the Tour of Trees.
Kruse has been heavily involved in community theater, running the sound system, serving as house manager and back stage manager and acting in several productions.
He serves on the Good Samaritan advisory board and is a deacon at UCC Church in De Smet.
He has been on the board of the South Dakota Florist’s Association for 12 years and is currently serving as president
“Chad is an ambassador for the community. He strives to assist people new to De Smet whether they are visiting or moving to the community,” Wolkow said. “If Chad volunteers to do something, he does it because he wants to and he does it well.”
